I met with Director, Eric Komoroff, of Community of Unity yesterday in the upper East Side of Manhattan to discuss his partnership with school programs that provides instruments for success: self-esteem, self-awareness, integrity, sense of humor, responsibility, empathy, and focus, so that students can find their internal song. They work with underserved youth in NYC and internal work necessary to bring students to success with their in-school achievement. The organization is based on the concept of a song that exists inside each and everyone young person and, with the instruments for success, how they can tap into the music within to help them live their life.
Eric Komoroff's works to empower each student by awakening the potential within and his organization provides the skills for life that weave in and out of schools. This is work that was adopted by my cousin's organization, Hoops4Hope in S. Africa and Zimbabwe. Their program works with kids with strong relationships that partner with NYC schools. they provide mentorship, support, and trust to young people and work to place each kid at the center of their potential.. The art-based, therapeutic work of Komoroff provides additional support to school curriculum to allow educators to mentor the souls of every child so they can reach their uniqueness and potential.
It was a great visit to the Big Apple and I was also able to head to Chinatown to replenish my cap collection that was depleted in CNY when the kids swiped hats from me. It is my hope that our two organizations will ying and yang one another nicely, especially with partnerships to encourage literacy in schools.
Today's meeting was a step in the right direction. Now, we need to collect data to see how their community work can improve college and career-readiness with readers and writers
